Charter Destination — French Riviera & Monaco
Luxury yacht charter · Mediterranean
Overview
The French Riviera is the jewel of Mediterranean yachting — a coastline of extraordinary glamour stretching from the Italian border through Monaco, Nice, Cannes, Antibes and Saint-Tropez to Toulon. This is where the superyacht world congregates every summer, and for good reason: a near-perfect combination of sheltered bays, vibrant port life, world-class restaurants and a climate that delivers reliable sunshine from May through October.
Key Ports & Anchorages
- Monaco: The most prestigious address in yachting — berth in Port Hercule and step ashore into the world's most glamorous principality. The Monaco Grand Prix in May transforms the harbour into an unmissable spectacle.
- Cannes: La Croisette, the Îles de Lérins, Antibes with its old town and the Picasso Museum — all within an easy afternoon's cruise.
- Saint-Tropez: The iconic Côte d'Azur village remains one of the most sought-after ports in the world. Arrive early for a stern-to berth in the Vieux Port.
- Porquerolles & Îles d'Hyères: Protected national park waters — pristine anchorages just a short sail west of the Riviera bustle.
- Villefranche-sur-Mer: One of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean, a favourite anchorage for large yachts seeking calm and beauty.
Best Season
May–October, with July and August being the high season. Spring and early autumn offer calmer conditions, fewer crowds and excellent availability. The Mistral wind can blow strongly from the north — always check the forecast before heading west of Cap d'Antibes.
Charter Considerations
The French Riviera operates under French regulations. CIBPLAGE (reserved beach zones) and mooring restrictions apply in many areas. APA typically runs 30–35% of the charter fee. Euro is the local currency throughout. VAT is applicable for charters departing French ports unless the yacht exits EU waters.
