5-Night Hydra & Spetses — Saronic Short Break
Route Overview
The Route
Day 1 — Athens: Embarkation
Board at Zea Marina, Piraeus. A quick transfer from Athens International Airport (30 minutes by taxi) and straight aboard — welcome dinner on deck as the lights of Athens and Piraeus reflect across the water.
Day 2 — Hydra
A 3-hour morning sail to Hydra — one of the most remarkable islands in Greece. Car-free, donkey-powered and filled with the creative energy that attracted Leonard Cohen, Mick Jagger and generations of artists. Moor in the iconic horseshoe harbour and explore: the 18th-century mansions, the Church of the Dormition, the Ecclesiastical Museum. Dinner at Sunset restaurant, literally hanging over the sea on the rocks below the lighthouse.
Day 3 — Hydra: Walking & Swimming
A second day on Hydra — walk the mule path to the Monastery of the Profitis Ilias for panoramic views; take a water taxi to the swimming rocks at Vlychos or Palamidas. A simple lunch at the Barba Dimas taverna. A perfect day of Greek island life at its most authentic.
Day 4 — Spetses
A 90-minute sail west to Spetses — a charming pine-scented island with a beautiful old harbour. Hire a horse carriage to tour the island; the beaches of Agia Paraskevi, Anargiri and Agia Marina are excellent. Dinner in the old harbour square at Tarsanas restaurant.
Day 5 — Poros & Return
Sail north to Poros — the narrow channel separating the island from the Peloponnese is one of the most beautiful passages in the Saronic. An afternoon in the town square before the return passage to Piraeus. Arrive in the early evening for a final dinner ashore in Athens.
Day 6 — Disembarkation
Farewell breakfast before disembarkation. Athens International Airport is 30 minutes from Zea Marina.
