Charter Destination — Amalfi Coast & Gulf of Naples
Luxury yacht charter · Mediterranean
Overview
The Amalfi Coast and the Gulf of Naples represent Italian yachting at its most dramatic. Sheer cliffs draped in bougainvillea plunge into impossibly blue water; ancient fishing villages cling to hillsides; and the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida sit just offshore — each with its own distinct character. This is a destination where extraordinary scenery, remarkable food and one of the world's great maritime cultures converge.
Key Ports & Anchorages
- Capri: The crown jewel of the Gulf — anchor off the Marina Grande or find a quiet cove on the less-visited western side of the island. The Blue Grotto and the Via Krupp are unmissable.
- Positano: Perhaps the most photographed village in Italy. Anchor off the beach and explore on foot — the narrow lanes are full of boutiques, ceramics and excellent seafood.
- Amalfi: The historic republic's port town sits in a dramatic narrow valley. Dine on the terrace of one of the clifftop restaurants with views across the entire coast.
- Ischia: The thermal island at the western end of the Gulf — volcanic hot springs, lush gardens and the imposing Aragonese Castle.
- Procida: Italy's smallest inhabited island, pastel-coloured and authentically Italian, with barely a tourist in sight outside peak season.
Best Season
May to October. The coast is at its most spectacular in June and September — the heat is tolerable, the water warm and the crowds manageable. July–August brings intense summer heat and very busy anchorages; book everything well in advance.
Charter Considerations
Italy applies strict anchoring regulations in many areas, particularly near Capri and the Amalfi coast. Some anchorages require a permit. APA typically 30–35%. Charter VAT applies for yachts based in Italy unless exiting EU waters. Note that Capri has no berths for yachts over 24m at the Marina Grande without prior booking.
