Overview

Croatia has emerged as one of the Mediterranean's most compelling charter destinations — over 1,000 islands, extraordinarily clear water, medieval walled cities and a climate that rivals anywhere in the region. The Dalmatian coast from Split to Dubrovnik is the heartland of Croatian yachting, but the islands of Šibenik and Zadar to the north offer equally beautiful sailing with far fewer crowds.

Key Ports & Anchorages

Dubrovnik: 'The Pearl of the Adriatic' — the walled old city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Anchor in Gruž harbour or at the island of Lokrum just offshore.
Hvar: The sunniest spot in Croatia and one of the liveliest — a beautiful Venetian-influenced town with a vibrant nightlife and excellent restaurants.
Korčula: Marco Polo's birthplace, they say. A perfectly preserved walled town on a wooded island — peaceful, authentic and strikingly beautiful.
Mljet: Croatia's greenest island, two-thirds of which is national park — two saltwater lakes, a Benedictine monastery and near-complete serenity.
Vis: The most remote of the major Dalmatian islands — reached only by ferry or yacht, exceptionally unspoiled, with the famous Blue Cave at Biševo nearby.

Best Season

June to September, with July–August the peak. The Mistral (Maestral) blows reliably in the afternoons — excellent sailing conditions. The Bura, a cold NE wind, can arrive rapidly in autumn; always have an escape plan. May and October are excellent for those seeking quieter anchorages.

Charter Considerations

Croatia requires a cruising permit (vinjeta) — we handle this in advance. Several national parks charge daily entry fees. VAT applies to charters within Croatian waters. APA typically 25–30%. Marina berths must be booked well in advance for July–August. The currency is the Euro (introduced 2023).
